Observations

PAC toured the Boulder Lake Zone on Monday...The upper foot of the snowpack is unconsolidated and can move with you. We toured a lot of terrain where tracks from a few days ago had almost disappeared. It snowed pretty hard during most of the day. The upper snowpack has some mixed weak layers: graupel, near-surface facets, and potentially surface hoar...this may take a week or more to bond. Winds were light, travel was good, we felt good about the conditions, but would be concerned in exposed longer steeper sustained slopes where you could be taken off course or wind loaded corniced terrain.
