Signs of Unstable Snow

Observations

We toured up around “Sargetns” or Brundage peak as our topo map calls it. Ended up bushwhacking through the glades and under the ridge to the south. Lots of light dry snow. Ski penetration was up to my shins, and knees in some places. About 30+cm. Boot penetration was bottomless most places.

South face of the ridge looked pretty wind affected at the higher elevations. Not scoured but probably lots of buried treasure waiting to hook your tips or core your skis.

We ended up joining the main skin track up the west shoulder and made it to the top, then skied down the same aspect.

We did not see or hear any instability, but dry loose snow could be a problem on steep slopes as mentioned in the forecast the last few days. Lots of wind loading and cornices on the north and east aspects. Tons of rime on trees too.
