Soldier & Wood River Valley Mtns
|
Bottom Line
Large avalanches are possible in upper elevation terrain where the wind formed stiff drifts or slabs on top of old snow that fell in November and early December. Avalanches are unlikely in the vast majority of this zone—there is little to no snow.
We will begin issuing daily Avalanche Forecasts with Danger Ratings when snow cover allows for reasonable backcountry recreational access.

Banner Summit
|
Bottom Line
Your odds of triggering a slide increase as you climb through middle elevations on slopes that face away from the afternoon sun. Triggering a large avalanche is most likely in wind-affected terrain but remains possible in more sheltered areas.
A potent storm will cause the danger to spike tonight and Wednesday. Plan to be out of the mountains before dark.
