SUMMARY:Coed Introduction to Avalanche at Tamarack
DESCRIPTION:Coed Introduction to Avalanche class at Tamarack. $30 registration through Tamarack Resort. All proceeds go back to FPAC. \nThe course is designed specifically for people who are starting or refreshing their avalanche education. This is a great opportunity to prepare for a more in-depth three-day Level 1 course. Students will travel on snow with touring skis\, split boards\, or snowshoes. \nWe’ll start the day by discussing some of the big-ticket concepts of avalanche safety. Learning how to identify avalanche terrain is a critical component of any ski touring trip. We’ll also discuss the 9 types of avalanche problems and learn about how these problems interact with the terrain. \nWe will meet at Tamarack Resort’s patrol dome and then head out to a tour location\, we’ll spend a couple of hours learning to operate and search with avalanche beacons\, practice probing and digging skills and then do a mock rescue putting it all together. After that\, we’ll do a short tour\, and practice identifying avalanche terrain\, measuring slope angles. The day will finish with a short ski down back to the base area of the resort.

SUMMARY:AIARE Motorized Rescue and Rec Level 1
DESCRIPTION:AIARE Motorized Rescue and Rec Level 1 avalanche classes presented by Stable Mountain. Hosted at Brundage Mountain Resort. Sponsored by Friends of the Payette Avalanche Center. The Rescue course is a one-day stand alone course that is intended to be retaken on a regular basis in order to keep abreast of best practices in rescue techniques and gear. New participants will learn the basics of companion rescue\, while returning participants will expand their skill set with advanced topics and realistic scenario practice to help improve their skills. The Level 1 course is a three-day\, 24-hour introduction to avalanche hazard management. A short classroom session and two days on snow\, let’s ride! Students can expect to develop a good grounding in how to prepare for and carry out a backcountry trip\, to understand basic decision making while in the field\, and to learn rescue techniques required to find and dig up a buried person if an avalanche was to occur and someone in the party is caught. This course provides an introduction to using these decision making tools to help a group manage risk while traveling in avalanche terrain.

SUMMARY:Idaho Gives 2026
DESCRIPTION:Idaho Gives 2026 – we are a part of this effort! Help us become a Type 1 Avalanche center and bring you 7 day a week avalanche forecasting. May 4th – May 7th. Thank you for your donations. \nThe “Friends” is a non-profit organization\, with 501(c)(3) status\, formed in 1999. Our mission is to: provide a community-based forum to share avalanche information\, to operate and maintain beacon basin training facilities in the area\, to provide basic avalanche education to all types of winter recreationists\, and to be a partner to the Payette Avalanche Center in the West Central Mountains of Idaho. \nThe “Friends” believe education leads to awareness\, and awareness leads to safe backcountry travel. It is our desire to foster the community and government support that will allow the P.A.C. to continue to grow and provide individuals the tools and information necessary for safe backcountry recreation. \nIf you would like to get more involved email us to find out how\, we need volunteer board members\, and folks to help us out with our outreach\, classes and fundraising. \nThis year will be a challenge. The Forest Service is experiencing dramatic changes. Its past years’ support for the Payette Avalanche Center is not assured. That places an even bigger burden on the Friends to keep the good work going. If you care about keeping safe\, keeping your friends safe\, while winter recreating\, please consider a contribution to FPAC. \nIdaho Gives 2026 \n  \n  \n
