Attendance to our awareness presentation is required to attend the companion rescue clinic field training. \nSince avalanches are the number one cause of snowmobile fatalities in the west\, the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation is presenting a free Snowmobile based Avalanche Awareness course near you. These practical and popular classes familiarize the winter backcountry enthusiast with hazard recognition and techniques for safe travel in avalanche terrain. \nThe indoor portion of this class is at the Valley County Recreation Patrol building in Cascade. The field portion is at the West Mountain snowmobile parking lot in Cascade.

DESCRIPTION:In this AIARE Level 1 you will learn how to prepare for a backcountry trip\, understand basic decision making in the field\, and learn rescue techniques.\n\nWe are stoked that you’re interested in expanding your avalanche knowledge and we want to prepare everyone so that the course runs smoothly and is most beneficial. Although there is some classroom time we are going to have both in-class and field sessions so be prepared for both environments and for quick changes in between. Make sure your snowmobile is in good shape so that mechanic time isn’t a distraction because we are looking to ride about 20 miles per day for day 2 and 3. Beyond your normal riding gear we will provide all the necessary materials for classroom time and field books but be sure to have a 3-antenna transceiver (Avy beacon)\, a shovel\, and a probe.\n\nBe sure you have read and meet all the requirements laid out in the essential eligibility: https://avtraining.org/essential-eligibility-criteria/\n\nWe want to make sure that everyone in our group is getting the most out of the course so please reach out to me with any concerns about your abilities or equipment and be sure to arrive prepared and ready to learn.
