Snowpit Observations
More detailed information about the snowpack:

Dug 2 pits, one on a due north aspect at 7700’ and on on a ese aspect at 7400’. Old October snow on north aspect, but none on sunny aspect. Poor stability results in test pit on north aspect. Ese has more moderate results. Snow depth 125 cms on north and 75 cms on south.

Any other comments about the observation or links to outside pages that have more info on the observation:

Toured up standard route on ridge line from summit parking area. Thin coverage and upside down snowpack. Felt several whumpfs on way up. Snow became a little deeper and more supportive towards the top. Noticed old crowns on north aspect from during the most recent storm as the crowns were filled back in. Dug a pit on a due north aspect and had poor stability results failing on recent warm snow on lighter snow from last week. Plus failing on old October snow crust. Very discouraging.

Popped onto south aspect and enjoyed tenuous, careful skiing for the upper 500 feet dodging stumps and rocks. Dug a second pit and did not see any old October snow and had better/moderate results in stability tests. Climbed back to the ridge and headed out skin track/ridge line cautiously. Best skiing was off the ridge on low angle terrain.

The overall setup of the snowpack was not particularly inviting. I will be staying out of Avalanche terrain For the foreseeable future.
